Historic Owosso Area

History abounds in the Owosso area. Located on the Shiawassee River, it has been a thriving community since the days when the river was part and parcel of moving goods from village to village and to the larger towns.

Then of course, along came the railroads in the middle of the 1800's and suddenly the farming community of Owosso took on a larger role in the commodities market, being a large producer of beans and grain.

Needless to say, much of the area's charm is in its history, but a good deal of it is what of that is maintained today. The Curwood Castle comes to mind, canoe trips on the Shiawassee, the annual Train Festival, the Shiawassee County Fair and so much more.

Charming, neighborly and well attended with convenient services, close to several major cities in Michigan but maintaining its own character and quietness, the Owosso area is a perfect place in which to settle.

Curwood Castle

Curwood Castle sits on the banks of the Shiawassee River in a central downtown location. There are tours, plus there is a lively art community whose gallery is open several days of the week. There is also the annual Curwood Festival.
